Beyond the Arctic Circle: How Film8 Became a Trusted Production Partner for Global EV Brands
For the past few months, our team has spent the winter traveling across Iceland, Sweden, and Norway, supporting several major automotive brands as they push their electric vehicles to the limit under extreme Arctic conditions.
These projects have not only shaped our understanding of Arctic production but have also positioned Film8 as a trusted partner for global car manufacturers, EV brands, and automotive media seeking reliable winter-testing storytelling.
DCar: Journey to the Ultimate — Filming in Iceland’s Raw Nature
In December, we partnered once again with DCar, the automotive media brand under TikTok, to produce a hybrid automotive test + documentary project in Iceland — “DCar: Journey to the Ultimate.”
The assignment was clear yet demanding:
Test two next-generation EV models from WEY
Capture their performance across Iceland’s extreme terrain
Tell a compelling visual story that bridges engineering, design, and human experience
This project marked our third Arctic-circle collaboration with DCar, proving the long-term value of teams who share similar creative instincts, discipline, and respect for tough environments.
Iceland, with its unpredictable weather, volcanic ground, and rapidly shifting light, remains one of the most challenging film environments on the planet. Yet it is precisely these conditions that open opportunities for authentic storytelling — the kind that cannot be staged, simulated, or repeated.
How Film8 Evolved Into an Arctic Production Partner
Working in the Arctic Circle requires more than cinematic skills:
Knowledge of winter driving safety
Familiarity with EV behavior in extreme cold
Ability to coordinate multiple vehicle crews
Comfort with real-time location decisions in unpredictable landscapes
Experience working with global OEM teams and media organizations
Over the years, Film8 has gradually built a robust framework that bridges:
✔ Automotive engineering
✔ On-site production
✔ Location scouting in the Nordics
✔ Extreme-weather cinematography
✔ Road-safety coordination
✔ Drone operations in polar environments
This combination has made Film8 a natural partner for brands testing vehicles in remote winter locations.
Geely Galaxy Winter Testing — Sweden & Norway 2025
Right after Iceland, our team moved to the next major project:
Geely Galaxy’s winter testing production across Sweden and Norway.
Arctic winter testing is not simply about cold temperatures — it’s about handling:
Sudden storms
Pure ice roads
Low-angle winter sunlight
Rapid location changes
EV thermal management challenges
Safety restrictions and test-track protocols
Our role extended beyond filming:
Road location scouting
Lead-car spotting
Real-time route decisions
Testing-team coordination
Drone and follow-car cinematography
Multi-day Arctic logistics under extreme hours
This project exemplified the kind of multidisciplinary production work that Film8 has become known for.
Why Arctic Production Matters for the Future of EV Storytelling
As EV technologies advance, winter testing becomes increasingly crucial for:
Battery efficiency
Thermal performance
Traction control
Autonomous driving systems
Safety validation
Yet engineering data alone cannot tell a complete story.
Brands need visual proof — clean, powerful, cinematic images that convey endurance, trust, ambition, and the future of mobility.
This is where Arctic production plays a decisive role.
Filming in extreme climates is not merely aesthetics; it is a way to show:
How vehicles adapt
How engineering responds to nature
How innovation survives the cold
Film8’s mission is to translate these technical challenges into visually compelling narratives that resonate with global audiences.
As this winter season comes to an end, we are grateful for the trust placed in Film8 by our partners across the automotive industry.
From Iceland’s volcanic fields to the frozen lakes of Swedish Lapland and the fjord-lined roads of northern Norway, every project has strengthened our belief in one thing: The Arctic is a proving ground for innovation, storytelling, and collaboration.
More updates from the Geely Galaxy project will follow soon.
