Film Digitization

Film digitization is the process of converting analog film materials into digital formats.

At Film8, we assist you in scanning your physical films to create high-resolution digital copies, which can then be stored, edited, and shared using modern digital technology.

This process preserves the original content from deteriorating over time and, most importantly, brings your old memories back to life.

Why Choose Us?

At Film8, we are dedicated to providing the highest quality film transfer with precision, care, and efficiency. We use the most powerful scanner equipment and retouching software in the Nordics to ensure that your memories are preserved in the highest possible resolution, with improved sharpness, color correction, and noise reduction.

A photo split in the middle to show the difference with automatically scanned film and manually digitized film.

Scanning Process

All items are photographed with high-resolution digital cameras and sharp macro lenses. We then manually adjust colors, brightness, and contrast levels for each image.

What you receive

The images are processed as 14-bit RAW files and then converted to standard JPG files for delivery. You are free to use the images for any purpose. RAW files can be provided upon request. All images are available for online download for 3 days. You will be able to download the images via WeTransfer. We keep a backup of your images on our servers for up to 1 month. If you lose them, we can replace them without needing to rescan them.

How long does it take?

We usually complete each order within 5 business days, but during high demand or larger orders, it may take longer.

Do You Return the Originals?

Yes, all originals are returned unless you specifically request that we do not.

Do I Need to Place an Order Online?

Yes, you need to fill out the form below.

Can I get a refund if the result does not meet expectations?

Some film rolls, due to their age or original image quality, may produce results that do not meet higher expectations – even when the work has been carried out correctly on our part. Since the service has already been delivered, refunds are unfortunately not possible. We therefore kindly ask you to keep this in mind before using our service.

Note

The final result of the film transfer largely depends on the film itself (e.g., film quality, lens performance, correct exposure during photography, and focus settings). We strive to reproduce the film's original appearance as accurately as possible.
